    Improv class

Sunday, July 15, 2007, 06:30 PM EST [General]

I attended my very first improv class today. It was held at the NYRF site for the actors and others that will be interacting with the patrons of the faire. I would be classified as one of the others.

Since our version of Friends of Faire is owned by the company that owns the faire, we get to attend the classes and have a deeper level of interaction with the cast and patrons.

Never did this before, but it has made me look at my chatacter in a deeper light than before. Part of our assignment for the day is to come up with 3 words that describe our character/persona. So far I have 2, conflicted and oportunistic. At the same time we have to work on our back story and we have to write our introduction (the way we would introduce ourselves to the patrons) and our exit (yeah, ye get the idea).

My pirate persona sort of evolved to being a pirate. I started out as a mercenary/sword for hire. Basically a land pirate. People would be constantly calling me a pirate and I resisted it for years, but finally I gave in and adopted me true nature and am happier for it. Have to redo my backstory, but I think I have a good idea for it. Once I have it ironed out, I'll post it for critiques and such.

Another part of the class was learing our station in society. With my current persona, I have a "percieved" station as being just above the working middle class. Unlike them, I have the ability to rise above my current station, which is sort of a disguise anyway. If my true nature were to be shown, my station would actually be closer to the top third of the pecking order and not closer to the middle were I am percieved to be right now. As a pirate and a First Mate, I have the force of arms behind me to move at any time. Might makes right in a feudal society.

As I am married to the captain, we are equals in power, but since a ship can only have one captain, I allowed her to take the title, even though she likes to think she allows me to think I allowed her to have it. Just the fact that I belled her, so I know where she is and can't sneak up on me speaks volumes to itself.

So anyway, to make a long post endless, I enjoyed the class and there are 2 more to attend in the next 2 weeks before the faire opens.

You scored as WereWolf, WereWolf: Craving rare Meat, feeling caged, aggitated by being around people. Unable to control one's anger or temper. The person will give off symptoms of the shift. They will seem more hostile, blood thirsty, aggitated. They may even growl, bare their teeth or other animal like tendencies. In rare cases, some will physically change. Facial hair will grow thicker or darker, nails will become longer, canine's will seem longer. Embrace your wild side, for you are The Misunderstood WereWolf.

    my collection

Saturday, July 7, 2007, 04:02 PM EST [General]

Like most of us "Rennie" types, I collect sharp, shiney things. Mostly swords if ye didn't catch me drift. Here be a picture of "most" of me collection. There are a few pieces missing from this picture.

Oh, the reason I took this picture is because, the other night, when I was sound asleep, I was blasted out of bed by a tremendous racket. I thought a car had run into my house. Turned out it was my sword rack falling off the wall and then down the stairs. The rack it turns out, was made of particle board and pulled itself right off the the screws that held it to it's mounting brackets. After hanging on the wall, at the head of my stairs for a little over a year, I had added 2 new pieces to it and it held for about a week before coming down.

Since I had all the blades in one place, I decided to take a picture and share it will all of you.

A very rough schedule of me faire life.

Monday, July 2, 2007, 09:36 PM EST [General]

July, everyweekend, hopefully: Building the FoF "Keep" at NYRF. Thats if we can find 2 carpenters that will pass Lars's muster and get lots of help. *hint, hint to all you NYRF FoFers*

If not, then SCRF the last weekend, maybe. Maybe Sterling, but that would be pushing my travel budget for this year, since the Wenchwife and I went to Vegas a couple of weeks ago.

    August, through September: NYRF

After that, PARF; already got me room fer the last weekend, MDRF, CRF. Mayhaps the other CT faire and King Richards as well.
